from Captain Stoole of the S.S. Kwangtung Trading on the China Coast of the death of my Brother Thomas West, Chief Engineer on board said Ship and Captain Stoole States that his death took place on board in the Port at Shanghai on the 11th May 1869.

I am further informed

It M. Consul at Shanghai has taken over the effects and papers of the deceased; if you will be kind enough to State what means is to be adopted to obtain possession of the Same, and also state whether the Consul in China has Communicated with you on the matter, My Brother and my self are anxious to know, and

by furnishing us the required information,

You will much oblige Your Humble and obt Servants
